Here’s The Mandarin from Toy Biz’s 1994 Iron Man series. Looks a little different than he does in the comics, because they dyed his skin green for the cartoon.
Mandarin is the villain with the 10 power rings on his fingers. To replicate his power, Toy Biz installed tiny lights in the figures hands, which are activated when you press a button on the back of his neck.
Still works too.
It’s pretty cool, except it renders the figure unable to move his head around. The figure’s arms also lack the elbow joints of others in the series. That made it difficult for Mandarin to really get into the action when Iron Man came around.
I’ll give Toy Biz credit, the company did a great job creating figures of characters that had never been released as toys before. I might have had only one Iron Man, but I collected a few from his rogue’s gallery.
